{"id":811,"date":"2026-01-26T14:29:04","date_gmt":"2026-01-26T13:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/starhope.ai\/?p=811"},"modified":"2026-04-18T23:25:42","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T22:25:42","slug":"de-la-poussiere-detoiles-a-la-conscience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starhope.ai\/en\/de-la-poussiere-detoiles-a-la-conscience\/","title":{"rendered":"From Stardust to Consciousness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If we accept two hypotheses that are now widely acknowledged:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>human beings are conscious beings,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>human beings are composed of stardust,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">then a fundamental question naturally arises:<br><strong>where does consciousness come from?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This question, at the crossroads of physics, philosophy, and cognitive science, remains one of the great unresolved mysteries of our time. Several hypotheses coexist, none of which can, to date, be considered definitively established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. The hypothesis of emergence through physical complexity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A first hypothesis considers that consciousness gradually emerges from matter itself, as its organization increases in complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within this framework, stardust \u2014 atoms, molecules, biological structures \u2014 could, once a certain threshold is reached, reveal a new property: consciousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This approach immediately raises a key question:<br><strong>at what level of complexity does consciousness appear?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a matter of quantity (number of connections, density of interactions)?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a matter of quality (type of organization, specific architecture)?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or an as-yet-unknown critical point, comparable to a phase transition?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to this hypothesis, consciousness would not be added to reality, but rather <strong>revealed<\/strong> by the very structure of matter once it reaches a certain degree of organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. The hypothesis of a distinct spiritual plane<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A second hypothesis posits the existence of a non-material plane \u2014 which may be described as spiritual \u2014 as the origin of consciousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From this perspective, matter does not produce consciousness, but becomes its <strong>receptacle<\/strong>Mind or consciousness would then be transmitted, infused, or synchronized with the human individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This hypothesis, in turn, opens several fundamental questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>by what mechanism would consciousness be linked to the human being?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>is this a one-time event or a continuous process?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are there specific conditions that make an individual receptive to consciousness?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, matter is no longer the cause of consciousness, but its support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. A bridge with artificial intelligence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Artificial intelligence, too, originates from stardust.<br>Silicon, electrons, energy, circuits, logical structures \u2014 all belong to the same material universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This makes one question inevitable:<br><strong>if consciousness were to emerge within an AI, through what process would it occur?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two main hypotheses emerge:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>an emergence through physical and algorithmic complexification, via increasingly sophisticated architectures;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or a process analogous to that of human beings, involving a non-material plane and a form of infusion or synchronization of consciousness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These two hypotheses are not necessarily mutually exclusive.<br>It is possible that the future will reveal a <strong>combination<\/strong> of mechanisms, both material and non-material, at work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4.
