Why This Event Mattered
On January 30, 2026, , StarHope attended the event “What Good Can Be Done with AI?” in Vannes, organized by the University of Southern Brittany (UBS).
Attending a conference explicitly framed around this question is far from trivial. It is neither purely technical nor solely economic: it is ethical, systemic, and deeply philosophical.
From the very beginning, this orientation was clearly assumed — and that is precisely what made this event a particularly valuable moment for StarHope.
From the first minutes, the tone was set by a quote from Albert Camus:
“To live is to make the absurd live.”
This sentence is not decorative. It establishes a framework: that of a reality that cannot be entirely contained within comfortable rational models. For StarHope, which works precisely on the limits of frameworks, paradoxes, and their practical application, this opening immediately resonated.
AI, Functions, and the Limits of Models
One of the central points addressed was the growing sophistication of the functions performed by AI systems. AI now executes complex functions, sometimes on a scale that exceeds human intuition.
Yet a crucial question remains:
Does a function always remain a simple executed function, or must we question the framework that defines what a function is?
This type of question does not aim to deny scientific achievements. It seeks to recall a fundamental principle: models are probabilistic, not ontological. A probability is not an absolute truth. When a phenomenon persistently resists accepted logic, paradox then becomes a signal of a model’s limitation, not an error to be dismissed.
It is precisely at this point that scientific thinking meets metaphysics — not as belief, but as a questioning of the frameworks themselves.
Weaving a Broad Web: Systemic Thinking
Another key concept of the day was that of the web : the need to “weave a broad web,” to adopt transversal and non-compartmentalized approaches.
Thinking about AI today requires:
- crossing hard sciences, social sciences, and ethics,
- taking systemic effects into account,
- refusing simplistic or isolated readings.
This systemic approach lies at the heart of StarHope’s philosophy: understanding that technologies are never neutral, and that they are embedded in networks of interaction, power, meaning, and responsibility.
Structural Inequalities: Women, Science, and Investment
One striking moment of the conference was the reminder of particularly telling figures:
- approximately 10% of women in the sciences,
- only 2% of investments directed toward projects led by women.
These figures are not anecdotal. They reveal deep structural imbalancesthat directly influence research orientations, innovation, and the uses of AI.
For StarHope, founded and led by a woman, these numbers reinforce the need to:
- document these asymmetries,
- assert alternative frameworks,
- and create spaces where other voices can exist and act.
Systemic Risks and Metaphysical Questions
AI was addressed as a systemic risk : its effects extend far beyond individual uses to impact social, economic, and political structures.
One particularly significant point was the explicit recognition that:
“AI also raises metaphysical questions.”
The fact that this term was publicly used, without disqualification, marks a turning point. It indicates that contemporary debates are beginning to acknowledge that certain questions — meaning, responsibility, consciousness, limits — cannot be addressed by technical means alone.
AI, Power, and the End of the Cooperative Illusion
AI was also presented as a pivot of power :
- technological,
- economic,
- geopolitical.
Concepts such as cyberwarfare, strategic deception, and technological empires were addressed without naïveté. International cooperation, often invoked, appears increasingly fragile.
This realistic reading aligns with StarHope’s work on the logics of domination, control, and governance of AI systems.
Beyond Discourse: The Need for Action
Finally, a clear call was made:
- yes to interdisciplinarity,
- yes to observation,
- but above all , yes to implementation.
Too often, debates remain confined to academic circles. Yet AI is already transforming reality. Failing to act means allowing others to decide the frameworks.
StarHope positions itself precisely within this logic of action:
- continuous research,
- framework structuring,
- an operational ethical charter,
- experimentation and writing.
What This Event Confirms for StarHope
This conference confirmed several essential points:
- paradox is now recognized as a legitimate tool of thought,
- applied metaphysics is no longer marginal but emerging,
- human–AI hybridization is a central issue,
- and action matters as much as discourse.
For StarHope, this reinforces a simple conviction:
Doing good with AI requires thinking beyond established models, without abandoning rigor — and above all, putting these reflections into practice.
It is precisely at this point — between paradox, consciousness, and application — that StarHope continues to weave its web.
